Product Review: Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair Serum

It’s not often that I focus on just one product, however I’ve discovered a product that is so remarkable in its results that it deserved it’s own dedicated blog. The skincare experts at Dermalogica have just launched what they are calling the ‘miracle’ anti-ageing product; Overnight Retinol Repair. Trust me when I tell you the results have to be seen to be believed.

So what’s it all about and should you believe the hype? Bear with me while I talk science…

The secret behind Dermalogica’s Overnight Retinol Repair is, you guessed it, Retinol, or Vitamin A to you and I. Vitamin A is known as the ‘normalising’ vitamin and is a real workhorse in helping to reverse the signs of ageing on the skin. What makes this product so different is that, whilst most skincare these days is anti-ageing, i.e. preventative, Overnight Retinol Repair actually turns back the clock and reverses the evidence of ageing on the skin. Retinol helps to accelerate cell renewal and turnover, stimulates collagen and improves the appearance of fine lines, pigmentation and wrinkles. Usually you’d need a prescription to get access to this fountain of youth, but thanks to the clever clogs at Dermalogica we have a solution. Overnight Retinol Repair contains highly-active 0.5% microencapsulated retinol, the highest level you can get without a prescription.

I, like you reading this, was thinking ‘yeah yeah, I’ve heard this claims before. How good can it really be?’. So I decided to give a few samples to my team in the salon to see what they thought. The results were out of this world. In just one month they were noticing that their skin was smoother, plumper, and that the fine lines around their eyes had begun to fade. I was converted.

So if you decide to give it a go, here are my tips to get the most out of the product.

First, always use Overnight Retinol Repair at night to preserve the integrity of Retinol, which is susceptible to degradation when exposed to sunlight. It also will coordinate with the body’s natural night-time rhythm when cell renewal is at its prime.

To use the product squeeze one part Overnight Retinol Repair into palm. Add three parts of the included Buffer Cream. Mix together and apply to face, avoiding the eye area. You will be able to decrease the ratio of Buffer Cream to Retinol after 2 weeks, as your skin adjusts. You can do this at your own personal pace but eventually you will build a tolerance where you can just use the retinol repair. As this is a powerful product, make sure you use SPF30 on your skin everyday and avoid too much exfoliation on your skin. TOP TIP…if you run out of Buffer Cream, you can always mix the Overnight Retinol Repair with your usual Dermalogica moisturiser.

I really can’t recommend this product enough. Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below. I’m sure you’ll be as wowed by it as I am!
